Team Description

Kelly, Hayley and Colin Taylor are all taking on the epic Three Peaks Challenge in order to raise vital funds for research into skin cancer.

If you don't know about the Three Peaks Challenge it is an attempt to climb Ben Nevis (Scotland), Scafell Pike (England) and Snowdon (Wales) within 24 hours. To be able to do this we are going to need a lot of stamina, physical and mental strength, which is why training has began already (us Taylor's don't mess around).

Two of the most difficult things to this challenge will be walking up mountains in the dark, as well as sleep deprivation. Thankfully Kelly can sleep pretty much anywhere so fingers crossed she won't get too grumpy.

We have a hearty challenge ahead of us, but you can help make all the training and the 'activity' itself all worthwhile by giving us some pennies (well pounds would be better).

Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the UK, and there is no cure. Please help us change that.

P.S Kelly will also be taking part in the Spartan Race for BSF so please give her lots of encouragement and support.

We did it

It's Monday morning, we've got pains in places that we didn't know we had but an amazing sense of achievement surrounds us. We've completed the 3 Peaks Challenge. The weather on Nevis were Winter conditions rather than Spring which didn't bode well as this was our first Peak but onwards and upwards (and down again). The Pike proved to be a difficult descent in darkness but seeing the night sky that looks totally different than London made us think that maybe it wasn't that bad. On to the mini-bus to get a few Zzzz before Wales. Weather was fairly kind to us apart from nearing the summit where as expected it was very windy and foggy so unfortunately we could see the beautiful views we'd been told about for a distance of about 10 feet. Oh well in a couple of hours we'll have finished and the mug of tea in the café at the bottom was calling very loudly. Another difficult descent, probably mostly due to fatigue. A car park and mini-bus have never looked so beautiful when we got down. We would like to thank everyone that helped us achieve this challenge and to all of you that donated to the appeal. The aches feel worth it knowing that the money received is going to such a great cause. If anyone else is considering any type of fundraising event for Ittakes7 don't hesitate go for it. Much Love Colin and Hayley XX

Sun Awareness Week

So this week is Sun Awareness Week, whereby information about mole checking, how to protect yourself from the sun and information about skin cancer is highlighted to the public. Rates of skin cancer are continuously on the rise, so its time to get a bit more savvy people

Below is a leaflet about the signs to look out for when it comes to melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer. If you would like any more information or leaflets for your workplace etc please let me know and I'll be happy to send them out to you. Email me on

A Reason

Its stories such as this that make us realise how important our skin is, why we should not use sunbeds and avoid tanning and why we should check our skin regularly

Rollercoaster last few months

So the last few weeks/months really haven't gone according to plan and pretty crappy to be perfectly honest.

Dad was taken into hospital as he did not have any feeling in his legs, which meant he couldn't even walk, this was combined with being in absolute agony around the hip area, and any movement proved to be extremely painful. It was a pretty scary time as in wasn't until tests etc were carried out it was unknown what was causing the issue.

After rest (which drove him mad), taking things very easy, drugs, a few special exercises and appointments with the chiropractor he is almost back to his normal self and training, although taking it one step at a time, literally. He really wants to take on this challenge and will give it his best shot.

I am utterly gutted to say that I will no longer be joining Hayley and dad on this challenge, which I feel awful about because I had kinda suggested it.

After many unsuccessful physio sessions I went back to the doctor and I was told I would be referred to hospital for an MRI scan to see if that would detected any issues. 8 weeks later I am still waiting for an appointment. In the meantime I decided (well kinda pushed) to see a chiropractor, who believes I have a grumbling disc, which if I am not careful, can lead to sciatic. After seeing the chiropractor twice a week, a rather costly hobby, I am still in pain when doing simple activities such as commuting (I cannot stand the whole journey without being in pain), washing up etc etc.

I have been told not to do any high impact activities such as running and exactly all the type of activities I should be doing. I maybe 'fixed' for the challenge but I am not able to train for it! My fitness levels are awful and I would simply hold the group up and possibly do myself more damage, and so I have chosen to drop out of Team Taylor.

I wish Dad and Hayley the very best of luck and I hope they kick the ass of those mountains. Please leave them lots of lovely messages (you can do this via the Facebook plugin at the bottom of the page) and continue to support their amazing efforts.

New Challenge Dates

We have officially! Confirmed our dates for our challenge, ahhhh!!! 15-17th May 2015!

So we have to work on getting ourselves fixed and repairing our broken bodies and back to some serious training, which isn't going to be easy. I don't know about the others, but I could do with lots of motivation and encouragement, oh and a fair dose of positive mental attitude wouldn't go a miss either. So kind messages of support would be really appreciated.

We are a fair way off our fundraising target and I realise Christmas is coming up so if you could spare a few pounds please donate to us, it is a huge motivational boost and will go towards helping to find better treatments and cures for skin cancer. Thank you!!!!

As you probably know by now we didn't compete in last weekends 3 Peaks Challenge. This was due to the fact that after taking medical advice, Hayley was unable to take part after receiving injuries in the car accident a few weeks ago. Kelly and myself were considering doing it ourselves but, Maximum Adventure, the organising company for the challenge have kindly said that we can defer until a later date. As we were doing it as a trio we decided that this would be the preferred option. We are now looking at sometime in May 2015 for completing it. We will keep you updated as we know more. Congratulations and well done to the other teams that have completed the challenge within the last few weeks it couldn't have been easy.

Not Long Now

Well where do I start. Hayley is still in some pain from her accident, Kelly is still getting gip from her back and my back has been giving me some stress after lifting too many patients at the weekend. Never mind 2 weeks to go and hopefully we'll all be fit for the peaks. Kelly starts some physio soon as does Hayley so all should be good, but just in case, if you know 6 people that would be willing to carry 3 sedan chairs up 3 mountains let us know ASAP. Many thanks to the people that have added more to our sponsorship total, it really is very much appreciated and as previously said even more inspiration for the task ahead. We will keep you informed of any more news before we go and if you could encourage any friends or relatives to add even more to the total we will love you forever

Posted on 20/08/2014 @ 14:41 by colin taylor

Oh No

Hayley was unfortunately involved in a Road Traffic Collision on the way to work yesterday. She is not too badly hurt but has been advised by the A&E Doctor to refrain from any lifting etc. This also includes training for the peaks. Not a great time to be told this with only a few weeks to go but hopefully she should be back training in a weeks time. Otherwise all going O.K really. I'm feeling fairly positive about the challenge, although ask me the same question when there's only a day to go and the answer may differ. I'm working this weekend so will not be going to Box Hill but had a good bike ride today and have got the X trainer to use before I go to work although I don't particularly enjoy using it but needs must. As previously said, any further donations would be very much appreciated and will give us even more determination on them there cold wet hills

Posted on 17/08/2014 @ 15:28 by colin taylor

Box Hill

The 3 of us have just returned from training at Box Hill. Bit tiring but great practice for the Peaks. Had a bit of rain but after seeing the weather forecast for the Scottish Highlands we got off lightly. Still a couple of weeks to get some more training in so fingers crossed we'll all manage to complete the task. So if you've been meaning to sponsor us but haven't got round to it yet then please do so. If you have friends and family that may also like to sponsor us then please let them know how easy it is to do so.

Posted on 14/08/2014 @ 16:58 by Kelly Taylor

Short & Sweet

I went to the doctors today and I'm now on the waiting list to have physio, likely to get my first appointment in 5 weeks! In the meantime I have been told to take ibuprofen for two weeks and see what happens, so not the best result.

Training day is set for us this Sunday, so come rain or shine we will be tackling any hill we come across. To help us make it seem worthwhile please donate to our page, any support you are able to give will be really appreciated.

As Hayley and dad are being rather quiet. I am taking over and using this as a slightly cathartic experience. My back issues (yeah yeah I know but believe me I bored with this more than you) have been getting worse and so I have taken the decision to postpone my entry in the Spartan Race, which I have to admit I am completely gutted about. However, I'm having pain with just walking at times so running 13 km and battling 20 obstacles is a complete no go. I have transferred my place until next year (I can't chose the race until they are confirmed later in the year) so I am hoping I will be fixed by then and I can become a Spartan Participant, arrrooh!

I have to admit I am pretty concerned about Three Peaks and that I will be able to complete it in 24 hours. Training is pretty much non existent for me right now, despite having full intentions to get my lazy ass off the sofa and to the gym. As I write this I am sitting with an ice pack on my back as I am in a fair amount of pain, as I have been for the past few days. I'm feeling pretty frustrated about the whole thing and can only hope it gets and feels better very soon. I'm trying to keep positive but it's a bit difficult at times. I watched a couple of You Tube videos about people taking on the challenge and had a mini panic attack! The time has come around far too quickly, It is just over a month away and I feel unprepared. I just gotta remember Positive Mental Attitude and try and keep eyes on the prize.....raising vital funds for research into the devastating disease that is skin cancer.

Quiz Afternoon

We had our quiz yesterday afternoon, we have just had our final count up and we have raised a staggering £767.54!! A MASSIVE thank you to everyone who came along and supported us. We are truly overwhelmed, THANK YOU

Color Run

I completed the first of my three events yesterday...the Color Run (it's American hence the spelling). I thought there would be much more walking then there actually was. So in all I run (after two months of not being able to run) most of the 5k course. Yes I know "it's only 5K" but I am not a fan of running, plus the above. My back is hurting me a fair bit today, but I think some DONATIONS would make it seem much more bearable.

last weekend I took to Wales for a Kili Crew reunion and to climb Mount Snowdon, which is one of the Three Peaks we will be tackling. To be perfectly honest I found it pretty tough going, probable because I have not been able to do any training for the past two months due to my back. So after two months of being fairly inactive I decided to climb a you do!

I felt ok until I was about 30 mins from the top and then my back started to hurt, a lot! There were not even any gorgeous views to make it seem worthwhile. The weather was so bad you couldn't see more than 20 meters in front of you. When I got to the top I was very tempted to get the train down, but due to the weather I was told it was not going all the way to the top, to say I was not feeling particularly happy was an understatement. I decided I was going to have to take a different, flatter route down, which I did and my lovely friend Hannah came with me for company. After 15 mins walking the dam train went past all the way to the top! We didn't think we could get back in time before it left and tried to make it to the next stop, which we didn't managed. The rain poured, the wind howled and the train was toying with us. To say I was glad to get back to the hotel, have a nice cup of tea and warm shower would be an understatement.

This trip taught me that I need to seriously up my training, get my back fixed and possibly develop a more hardy attitude....wish me luck!

If you want to understand why we are taking on this challenge, which people are questioning if we can do it and one of our friends has stated and I quote "the worst weekend of my life", take a look at the two videos we have just put up!

We are hosting a quiz afternoon on Sunday 8th June at the Twickenham Tavern (TW1 3QS) so come along and test out your general knowledge.

We will also be holding various other activities to make the afternoon even more interesting, including a raffle. We have some brilliant prizes up for grabs such as (*deep breathe*) a spray tan (fake it don't bake it"!), VIP paintballing for 40 people, amazing skin care products from Sk:n and Dr Nick Lowe and two top price tickets for the opening night of Catch 22 at Richmond theatre.

Maximum 7 people per team £7 per person to enter all for It Takes 7 skin cancer appeal.

If you would like to join us for an afternoon of fun n games please let myself, Hayley or Colin know. We hope to see you there!

Hayley is a strong as ever, working out hard (as always) both at the gym and outside as it's good to mix things up. Dad is on the road to recovery and has been walking and cycling in Richmond Park, which is a vast improvement to where he was a few weeks ago. Go DAD!

For me it is a pretty sore subject. Due to problems with my back I have not been able to train and I've been seeing an osteopath. After a painful session last night I was feeling positive as I was told I could start training again as long as I was careful. However, after being up and about for about half an hour this morning I started to experience pain and it has been getting worse throughout the day, I can't straighten up and I'm having to walk fairly slowly. Overall I am feeling pretty worried and anxious about things as I am not currently where I should be at this stage. At this moment in time I am not even sure if I will be able to take part in the Colour Run on 1st June. Right now I'm feeling pretty low but I'm hoping things will get better very soon.

Another Event

Kelly has just signed up for her third event for the It Takes 7 campaign. She will be taking part in the Colour Run on 1st June. We really think that deserves extra donations ;-)

Posted on 25/03/2014 @ 17:28 by Kelly Taylor

Donations have started coming in now, it's getting exciting! You really would not believe what receiving a donation does for your motivation rockets!!!

Posted on 24/03/2014 @ 11:31 by Kelly Taylor

Training has officially started! Hayley & Kelly took to Box Hill to start getting used to hill walking, they're thinking that it may become their regular training ground.

Colin has unfortunately been out of action due to back problems, but fingers crossed after many appointments with the chiropractor, various support badages and tubes of Deep Heat and Voltaren gel he'll be training very soon.
